The project goal was providing ecogeochemical assessment of major environmental compartments of city of Kajaran and adjacent areas impacted by mining plants operating in Kajaran. The project comprised a study of a dust load and levels of heavy metal contents in dust; a bioindication research of atmospheric pollution with sulphur and nitric compounds; ecotoxicological and sanitary and hygienic assessment of fodder crops and farm produce obtained within the limits of the city and from the re-cultivated tailing repository sites; assessment of ecological status of the environment of kindergartens of Kajaran and village of Lernadzor and a study of heavy metal accumulation levels in kids’ hair. The obtained research results underpinned development of ecological and health risk minimization measures.
