Previously, in the Republic of Armenia (RA) no risk assessment of trans-fatty acids (TFAs) has been conducted for processed and ready-to-eat products sold in public food points in Yerevan. For the first time, within the framework of this project, it is planned to determine the content of TFAs in food, to investigate the diet and to carry out dietary exposure assessment with the use of risk-based scientific methods adopted by international organizations. One of the project objectives is the classification of risky foods by formulating risk groups of TFA-containing products. Another research goal is to provide the necessary scientific-methodological framework for TFA risk assessment, which can also be used by the relevant authorities, that is, by the Food Safety Inspectorate under the Government of RA and the Ministry of Health of RA. Overall, the project has a scientific as well as practical significance towards assessing food safety and implementing risk-based effective management system in Armenia.
